Somatostatin Receptor Imaging May Establish the Neuroendocrine Nature of Unclarified Metastases

چکیده
Different imaging modalities may be of use in unclarified disease states. Positron emission tomography (PET) with F-18fluorodeoxyglucose (F-18-FDG) depicts cellular glucose metabolism with a high uptake being indicative of a high cellular turnover and, hence, consistent with ongoing infection, inflammation, or high grade malignancy (Hess, et al., 2014). Functional imaging with somatostatin analogues are used for visualizing neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) expressing somatostatin receptors due to their resemblance with normal neuroendocrine tissue. From time to time, imaging results may be atypical or even conflicting and, therefore, complicating the diagnostic process. Typically, however, different scans complement each other, and the right imaging techniques are useful not only for diagnostic purposes but also for revealing dissemination and guiding biopsy. This case illustrates the use of somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) with the somatostatin analogue 111In pentetreotide Abstract

Demonstration of focal physiologic in-vivo somatostatin receptor expression in the caput epididymis of the testes on 68Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT and 177Lu-DOTATATE post-therapy whole body scintigraphy
We present the case of a 60-year-old man with metastatic neuroendocrine tumor of the ileum following ileal resection, being evaluated for 177Lu-based peptide receptor radionuclide therapy. 68Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT showed focal increased tracer uptake in the scrotal region without any morphologic changes on the corresponding CT images. Similar increased tracer uptake was seen on...

UNLABELLED Liver metastases from neuroendocrine tumours frequently occur and significantly worsen their prognosis. Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) is a valuable method for the detection of somatostatin receptor-positive lesions like gastrinoma. In this case report, the importance of SRS to localize the primary tumor and the spread of disease is emphasized in a patient with neuroendocri...
متن کاملUptake Difference by Somatostatin Receptors in a Patient with Neuroendocrine Tumor: 99mTc-Octreotide Uptake in the Lung without Uptake in Liver Lesions
The diagnostic value of somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) in detecting tumors has been assessed in a number of studies. We present a 30-year-old female with a history of eight months cough and left shoulder pain. Radiologic evaluation showed pulmonary mass and hepatic lesions, which were pathologically diagnosed as neuroendocrine carcinoma. 99mTc-octreotide scan demonstrated that the pul...

A 50 years old woman with history of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor diagnosed 2 years ago, which has not been surgically removed, was referred to our department for a 99mTc-Octreotate in order to evaluate the somatostatin receptor status. She was treated with regular sandostatin injections and chemotherapy. Her CT scan which was previously performed confirmed lung, adrenal and hepati...

UNLABELLED Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy is an accurate imaging modality for the diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumor. Because detection of distant metastases has a major impact on treatment, early diagnosis of metastatic spread is of great importance. So far, no standard procedure has become established for the early diagnosis of bone metastases from neuroendocrine tumor. We compared the dia...
